Steven Criqui

Steven Criqui lives and works in Los Angeles. Criqui received his BA at the University of California, San Diego. His work has been shown at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, at the Harris Art Gallery, University of La Verne, La Verne, the Henry Art Gallery, Seattle, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Brooklyn, at Otis Gallery, Otis College of Art and Design, at the California
Center for the Arts, Escondido, at the Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach, at the UC Santa Barbara Museum, Santa Barbara, at the Long Beach Museum of Art, Long Beach.

Criqui has been an innovator in his painting practice. He has accomplished this by virtue of his groundbreaking combined use of digital processes and layers combined with meticulous hand brushwork, to seamless effect. His work has often drawn upon the urban iconography of Los Angeles and the uniquely
American vernacular the city expresses. There is a cinematic effect to the paintings of Steven Criqui, whose focus upon the banal and bizarre aspects of the urban landscape of LA, as well as other cities such as Miami and Key West. He has also turned his gaze to figuration, in works, which chronicle his friends and intimates, capturing the quiet, yet compelling moments that make up daily life.
