Martin Sexton
Martin Sexton is known as a genuinely controversial artist
whose work continues to divide opinion, absorbing, challenging
and transforming the world around him; he is at odds with
the current precept that it is impossible to produce anything
original or authentic. He constantly refers to his work
as "writing" and objects created to be "sculptural
poems". Everything he produces is heavy with myth and inherent
narrative.
Peter Lewis commented in the catalogue that accompanied his
recent exhibit 'Go Between': '(the writer/curator) in the
universal sense: going between things and peoples and 'arranging'
new
configurations between art, love, politics and technology,
enacted through indirect, often inexplicable chance encounters.
The writer/curator Martin Sexton, like the philosopher,
is also a
co-worker in the process of art, and can therefore be nominated.
Art is, without doubt, certain of its task to initiate
new discourses of the subject. But be aware Martin Sexton
like the poet Pound has already 'Made it New'.
